Training & Coaching

Training Workshops
TFDC trains development practitioners in a range of participatory facilitation techniques. The focus is on practical tools and skills to enhance stakeholder participation. Training workshops typically take place in small groups of 10 to 15 participants. They can be hosted in the Ahmadu Bello University campus (Zaria), or within an organisation's region if an appropriate venue is available.
  • TFD Facilitator Workshop: Participants learn how to use Theatre for Development (TFD) to actively engage target groups in analysing their own situation, planning and monitoring collective activities, and advocating for change.

  • PV Facilitator Workshop: Participants are trained in using Participatory Video (PV) to encourage people to independently portray who they are, how they conceive matters, and/or how they would like things to be.

  • PLA Facilitator Workshop: Participants are equipped with a range of Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) tools to enhance stakeholder participation in various stages of the programme/ project cycle (analysis, planning, implementation, m&e).

  • Focus Workshops: At the request of organisations, TFDC can design needs-tailored workshops zooming in on organisational development/ institutional strengthening aspects, on elements of the project cycle, or on generic facilitation and communication techniques.

Coaching
TFDC also provides on-the-job coaching to people with basic TFD, PV, or participatory development skills who wish to deepen their understanding, or want to spar on how to apply the learned techniques in their own work context. Coaching is recommended as a follow-up to TFDC’s training workshops to ensure full utilisation of the acquired skills. Depending on preference, coaching can be provided by phone, email, or face-to-face.
