Description

Good governance project focusing on human rights and citizen participation among marginalised groups in Plateau State, aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods. In successive workshops, CBOs were trained in democracy monitoring, demanding services from the elected, and mobilising human and material resources for political participation. Drama was used as an outreach tool for encouraging debate and dialogue on social and political issues.

Key Results

  • Groups from Bokkos became actively engaged in political processes (electing people into political offices in LG elections, coordinating campaign activities for aspirants believed to be committed to bring development to their communities)
  • CBOs built quid pro quo pacts with politicians to be able to hold them accountable if they would be voted into office
  • CBOs became more visible and enlarged their membership by encouraging women and young people to join
